The school is located in Byron Bay only 900 metres from one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. It is 600 metres from the centre of town and close to shops and cafes. The classrooms which are spacious and filled with natural light are surrounded by very large outdoor grounds and gardens.

Learn English at Byron Bay

At Byron English Language Academy we offer a range of courses. There is usually a morning session from 9 am to 12.30 pm and then an afternoon session from 1.30pm to 3pm.

All courses are delivered in a professional manner by qualified and experienced teachers. Although the teachers follow a curriculum and use a textbook, the classes are interesting and enjoyable. There is plenty of practical use of English designed to improve your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. At the completion of your course you will be awarded a competency certificate verifying your achievements at the Academy. The courses offered at Byron English Language Academy are:-

General English Fulltime

Our general English courses are designed for students who are seeking to improve their practical use of English in all situations including business, social situations and travel. The course will give you a solid grounding in speaking, reading and writing English in everyday situations. Your English ability will be graded when you arrive at the Academy and you will be placed in a class which is appropriate to your level. The classes range from beginner, intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced.

The course involves 25 hours of face to face teaching per week and is divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session focuses on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. There is plenty of interaction with the teacher and other students. Our teachers aim to make the lessons fun and enjoyable as well as practical and effective. Our curriculum has been carefully developed to ensure the lessons provide a structured and effective learning experience but they are never boring. The afternoon sessions focus on applying the information learnt in the morning classes into practical use. A wide variety of resources and techniques are used to provide an intensive English learning experience. The classes aim at rapidly improving your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

Often the classes will involve interaction with Byron Bay locals including visits to cafes and shops and participation in activities unique to our wonderful area.

General English Part-Time

You may not wish to study English full time and wish to keep part of the day free to pursue some of the many other activities available in Byron Bay and the surrounding areas.

The part time general English courses consist of a morning session each day from 9am to 12.30 pm or in the afternoon by arrangement. Sometimes part time students want to participate in another activity that occurs in the morning and we therefore try and maintain some flexibility in regard to the course hours.

The tuition fees are $250 per week for 2 to 4 weeks and $230 per week for 5 weeks or more.

Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE)

Cambridge Certificates are recognized worldwide as evidence of English language ability, particularly by employers. Our Cambridge FCE preparation course will help you prepare for the First Certificate in English examination. The course helps you improve your everyday English skills including listening, speaking, reading and writing. It is aimed at increasing your accuracy and fluency in English. The course includes includes training in exam techniques, mock examinations and study of past exam papers.

The course will be offered by the Academy three times a year however the next available course in 2008 commences on 1 September 2008 for the examination in early December 2008.

The course runs for 10 to 12 weeks and there are 25 hours of classes per week.

Students must have attained an upper- intermediate level of English to undertake the course. Class sizes are kept small and there is a maximum of 12 students per class.

If you successfully complete the examination you will receive the Cambridge First Certificate in English issued by Cambridge University.

The cost for the 12 week course is $4,080 plus a fee of $120 for materials. The exam fee is $345.

English and Surfing Course

This program combines our General English Part Time Course with a Learn to Surf course. The Language lessons are in the morning and the surfing after lunch. The surfing program is an intensive Surfing Course that will have you out surfing the waves on your very first day in Byron Bay.

This surfing program is an [8 Day] course that starts each Monday.
Program Details :

Day 1. Surf Awareness & Surf Safety: Standing on your Surfboard.
Day 2. Surf Rules & Surfing Etiquette: Catching your own waves.
Day 3. Paddling Skills & Turning the Surfboard
Day 4. Surfing Unbroken Waves: [Trimming & Gliding on the wave]
Day 5. Wave Selection: [Wave Shape. Wave Type. Wave Size]
Day 6. Surf on Real Surfboards: [Smaller – Faster – Easier to Turn]
Day 7. Free Surfing: [Refine & practice your skills]
Day 8. Visit Surfboard Factory: [See how Surfboards are made, then keep Surfing some more]

The surf course provides all equipment and includes Surfboards, Wetsuits, Rash Shirts & plenty of Sunscreen.

Style Surfing School:

Style Surfing has been operating on Byron Bays’ Main beach since 1999. All Instructors are accredited through Surfing Australia & Surf Life Saving Australia. Our fully qualified and highly skilled Instructors offer the best in Surf Safety and Surfboard Riding techniques in Byron Bay. All Instructors are long-time locals & are looking forward in sharing their knowledge with you.

Each participant who completes this program will receive a Certificate on Safe Surfing & a Safe Surfing Information leaflet.

The course is suitable for all levels of English and for beginner surfers or those with some experience.

Start: You can start the two week course on any Monday.

Included:

Two weeks of part-time English (from 9am to 12.30pm Monday to Friday)
8 surfing lessons (4 lessons per week)
all surfing equipment

Cost: AUD$775.00

Visas: Tourist and Working Holiday

The Academy also provides “SURF ASSIST”. In your second week of the English and Surfing program you will be provided with a contact number of a friendly local (it may even be a staff member of the school) who will be happy to take you surfing and introduce you to some of the safe and fun surf spots in the area at a time that is suitable to both of you. The Academy will also provide you with a surfboard during the second week free of charge!

We are presently developing our English and Fitness and English and Yoga courses and they will be available at the Academy from June 2008.
